General Infromation About English for Financiers Course:

This course is for professionals with at least a pre-intermediate level of English.  It is aimed towards those who have contact with international organizations and who need to be able to express themselves in speaking and writing in a variety of work-related contexts.  This is a practical course in which participants are expected to bring their own real-life experience to the classroom.

Course Outline:

Topics include:

  • What accountants and auditors do
  • Specializations (financial, management, performance, internal, etc.)
  • Standards
  • National stereotypes and dealing with foreign visitors

Objectives include:

  • Describing a process
  • Comparing and contrasting different systems
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Making recommendations
  • Understanding cultural differences in doing business

Tasks include:

  • Giving a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 5-page write-up, on a field-related problem and its possible solutions
  • Reporting the results of an audit
  • Conducting a mock meeting between governments or NGO’s
