Conversational English
Conversational English course is aimed towards those who have contact with international organizations and who need to be able to express themselves orally in a variety of work-related contexts. This is a practical course in which participants are expected to bring their own real-life experience to the classroom.
The course has been successfully conducted for the GPI Holding, the Sheraton Metechi Palace Hotel, and Georgia Health and Social Projects Implementation Center (Ministry of Health-World Bank), and the Eurasia Foundation CRRC-Georgia.
Topics include:
- Audience and purpose
- Style and register
- She language of discussions, meetings, and negotiations
- National stereotypes
- Non-verbal communication (eye contact, body language, gestures, etc.)
Objectives include:
- Agreeing and disagreeing
- Interrupting and holding the floor
- Explaining cause and effect relationships
- Making recommendations
- Using tables and diagrams
- Understanding cultural differences in doing business
Tasks include:
- Chairing a meeting and writing up the minutes
- Presenting a field- or job-related problem and its possible solutions
- Conducting a mock negotiation between companies, governments, or NGO’s
