For Presentations & Negotiations


General Information About English for Presentations & Negotiations Course:

This course is for professionals with at least a pre-intermediate level of English, including a good speaking ability.  It is aimed towards those who have contact with international organizations and who need to be able to express themselves in speaking and writing in a variety of work-related contexts.  This is a practical course in which participants are expected to bring their own real-life experience to the classroom.

Course Outline:

Topics include:

  • Audience and purpose
  • Style and register
  • National stereotypes
  • Non-verbal communication (eye contact, body language, gestures, etc.)

Objectives include:

  • Agreeing and disagreeing
  • Interrupting and holding the floor
  • Explaining cause and effect relationships
  • Making recommendations
  • Using tables and diagrams
  • Understanding cultural differences in doing business

Tasks include:

  • Conducting a survey and reporting the findings
  • Presenting a field- or job-related problem and its possible solutions
  • Conducting a mock negotiation between companies, governments, or NGO’s
