GEORGIAN LANGUAGE INTENSIVE COURSE
This course is for beginners who want an accelerated introduction to the Georgian language. It meets six hours a day, five days a week, for two weeks, for a total of 60 hours. Maximum enrollment for the course is six participants. The morning sessions focus on learning structures, vocabulary, and dialogs to meet a number of functional objectives. The afternoon sessions are dedicated to cultural awareness through workshops and field trips. Among the places to be visited are churches, museums, and markets in the Tbilisi area. It is expected that by the end of the course, participants will be able to read and write the Georgian alphabet and be able to engage in simple conversations in a variety of real-life situations.
Topics include:
- The Georgian alphabet and sound system
- Family and occupations
- Numbers, time, and dates
- Food, clothing, and household items
Objectives include:
- Describing oneself and one’s family
- Greeting and introducing people
- Describing and comparing people and objects
- Asking and answering questions about daily routines
- Talking on the telephone
Tasks include:
- Buying produce at the bazaar
- Looking for items in a department store
- Phoning a friend’s or a business and leaving a message
- Giving directions to a taxi or company driver
- Making toasts at a Georgian table
New courses begin every month. The course fee of US $400 includes materials, transportation for afternoon sessions, and a Georgian table on the last day of the course.
GEORGIAN LANGUAGE REGULAR COURSE
This course is for beginners who want a general introduction to the Georgian language. It meets two hours a day, three days a week, for 12 weeks. Maximum enrollment for the course is six participants. The lessons focus on learning structures, vocabulary, and dialogs to meet a number of functional objectives. Attention is also given to cultural awareness. It is expected that by the end of the course, participants will be able to read and write the Georgian alphabet and be able to engage in simple conversations in a variety of real-life situations.
