General Informtion About English for Lawyers Course:
This course is for professionals with at least a pre-intermediate level of English and above. It is aimed towards those who have contact with international organizations and who need to be able to express themselves in speaking and writing in a number of legal contexts. This is a practical course and participants can bring their own real-life experience to the classroom.
Course Outline:
Topics, Objectives and Tasks include but are not limited to the following
Topics include:
- Legal specializations (international, commercial, criminal, civil, etc.)
- What the law is and what it does
- Legal procedures
- Legal systems
- Legal drafting
Objectives include:
- Comparing and contrasting legislation from different countries
- Analyzing and evaluating legal cases
- Making recommendations
Tasks include:
- Conducting a mock trial
- Debating the appropriateness of legislation
- Negotiating and writing a contract
- Giving a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 5-page write-up, on a field-related topic
